Francisco E Werner, Cecil Sewell Distinguished Professor
Phone: (919) 962-0269
Fax: (919) 962-1254
Office:

325 Chapman Hall, CB#3300

Professional Background:

Dr. Werner conducts numerical modeling studies of physical processes in coastal oceans and shallow seas. Recent work has focused on the development of computational approaches to examine flows on the continental margins and their interactions with offshore currents, as well as the coupling of biological processes with these physical regimes. Major projects currently underway include studies of:
  • physical and biological processes affecting population regulation of cod and haddock on Georges Bank (see US GLOBEC Georges Bank Project website)
  • transport of Atlantic menhaden early life stages in the Carolina Bays (see SABRE website)
  • the physical oceanography of the continental margin off Cape Hatteras, N.C., particularly interaction between the Gulf Stream and flow on the continental shelf.
Dr. Werner's research is funded by NSF, ONR and NOAA. He heads the Ocean Processes Numerical Modeling Laboratory.
