UNC Faculty, Graduate Students and Postdocs get wet and saturated!
The UNC-CH Department of Marine Sciences has the esteemed privilege of two of the ten projects which are run as missions at the Aquarius underwater laboratory, located in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

The first mission, which focuses on the role of sponges in Nitrogen cycling is currently underway, and began September 16, 2008 and runs through September 25, 2008. The second mission will focus on ocean acidification and control on coral reef pH, and will take place October 14, 2008 through October 23, 2008.
The principal investigators for these missions are UNC-CH faculty; Dr. Christopher Martens and Dr. Niels Lindquist. Drs. Lindquist and Martens were also joined underwater by Graduate Student, Patrick Gibson and Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Karl Castillo. Topside support was provided by Howard Mendlovitz and Graduate Student, Nyssa Silbiger.
Each participant's name has a link that will take you to their mission profile so that you can learn more about them, and the role they played in the mission. You can also view the mission summary, mission pictures, and expedition journals. For more information about the Aquarius underwater lab, please visit: http://www.uncw.edu/aquarius/index.html
