Dr. Tori Hoehler (c/o '98) honored with Royster Award

Dear MASC Graduate Students:

UNC is celebrating 15 years of the Royster Society of Graduate Fellows on November 15, and the Graduate School will present awards to two alumni who have distinguished themselves – Tim Crowder and Tori Hoehler.  The Graduate School is hosting a lunch for graduate students at noon that day (Free Lunch..!!).  You are cordially invited to a luncheon presentation on career paths for Ph.D. graduates at noon on Nov. 15. The location is the Graduate Student Center.

Drs. Timothy Crowder (Biomedical Engineering, 2000) and Tori Hoehler (Marine Sciences, 1998) will be honored with Royster Society of Fellows Distinguished Alumni Awards on the evening of Nov. 15. They will be our guest speakers for the lunchtime presentation.

Dr. Crowder is a co-founder of Oriel Therapeutics; in his role as chief technology officer, he directed formulation activities, led device development and led an analytical laboratory team in development of active DPI for inhaled insulin and small molecules. Sandoz acquired the company in 2010. Since 2007, Dr. Crowder’s professional home has been GlaxoSmithKline, where he currently directs GSK’s Manufacturing Innovation Center of Excellence.

Dr. Hoehler joined NASA in 2001 as a research scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center’s Space Science and Astrobiology Division. He has served in that role ever since, and he also is a collaborating research scientist with the Mars Science Laboratory mission. Dr. Hoehler was a science adviser for the “Life: A Cosmic Story” planetarium show, which has received film festival recognition.

They have much to share with graduate students about their career paths and what they’ve learned along the way.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Deb Saine (saine@email.unc.edu) no later than Nov. 4.  Space is limited; responses will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
